Acadia/Acadian

"A Nation Without A Border"

"It is the Acadian Flag. The blue, white, and red refer to the Acadians' origins in France, and the golden yellow star symbolizes the Acadian patron saint Our Lady of the Assumption. The star - Stella Maris/Star of the Sea - represents seeking the protection of Virgin Mary and it indicates hope and a guiding light for the future. This flag, created and adopted in 1884, is the official National Flag of Acadia, representing Acadians world wide."

Chinese New Year

CHINESE NEW YEAR
Over three years I worked off and on at a Chinese restaurant in Southern, Maine called, Golden Palace. Still to this day I believe this is the best Chinese food that I have ever had. The environment is unbelievably clean and the employees are always happy and friendly. The first year I worked at Golden Palace, it was a different atmosphere. I felt as though I was the minority. Which I was. It was difficult at times because the cooks would try and tell me something that they needed or I should do and they had a hard time speaking English. Luckily the owner, Andy Lee and all of the employees that worked on the floor could speak English. This helped the transition of feeling like I belong. Roughly five to six months went by and I was told I needed to attend the Chinese New Year. This was a party that the employees and employer would put on in the restaurant one night to celebrate by eating different foods and drinks. It was kind of a thank you in a way that Andy Lee wanted his employees to attend so he could wine and dine us! After this experience I have always been interested in the Chinese culture. Especially the Chinese New Year. This is one of the most important holidays in the Chinese culture.

These packets were always given to us on the Chinese New year with money in them. We were always told to keep the packet and not look in it for good luck.

If you aren’t familiar with the Chinese New Year let me show you!

Brazil Football Museum

A new museum opened in Pacaembu, Brazil

The cost of the museum

$15 million U.S. dollars

“This is a place for us to worship,” said Mario Vieira, a 53-year-old banker standing outside the museum, which is housed in the Pacaembu Stadium. “Brazilians have soccer in their blood.”
The museum incorporated an area where a viewer can actually kick a soccer ball towards a net along with getting a picture taken while doing so. Brazil shows their appreciation for their well known football stars by making a museum of it. Not to mention while walking in, a recording is set so that each person is given a warm welcome from the legendary Pele.
This is a place to go for fans and friends to appreciate the accomplishments made in history (Five World Cups) in Brazil Football. Another interesting fact was that there is a room for fans to go and act as if they were at a game or learn different skills and tools about the game of football. It's a learning experience that can be fun. There is more than one room that is able to show your emotions for the sport. One room was also said to make you feel the pain for the 2-1 loss. This isn't only the highlights of Brazils proud football team, but also the the things that caused great pain for the players. I think it's going to be a great place for anyone to go and see for a better education on Brazillian Football and its success.
The idea of the museum was created by Jose Serra. While he was governing.
“I imagined a museum fundamentally made up of ideas, memories, and not so much of relics,” Mr. Serra told them. “I thought of something that would express the memory of our soccer, the great performances as well as our sufferings.”

HIV has spread throughout China…..
Is this a common mistake made by those who took on the responsibility to help others by donating blood. Who is to blame for using unsanitized tools, when the intent was simply to help others versus harm.

"In general the blood buying schemes were geared toward collecting plasma, a component of blood used in making medicines. The collectors would remove about a pint of blood from each donor, pool it with others and later spin it in a centrifuge to separate out the desired element. The leftover, mostly red blood cells, would be divided up and reinfused into the donors -- preventing anemia, but also spreading AIDS."

“Infection with the AIDS virus in China is spreading beyond the country’s original high-risk groups…..”

They are claiming these actions are coming from homosexuality and prostitute women. I feel as though this comment was a little unnecessary. I don’t think there should be a specific target without a given statistic. I think that what this really comes down to is using protection and being safe. It doesn’t matter what type of orientation you may be. This infection could easily be spread by drugs as well.
It is believed that in the 1980’s, this infection was spread by use of drugs. There should be a better education when it comes to protection and being smart with protection.

I found a section about this topic from another one of my classes that I found interesting. This directly relates to this topic and how this has been going on for so long. There has to be something to help or prevent this from continuing....

-HIV/AIDS was first reported in China in 1985.
-China, with a fifth of the world’s population, reported approximately 650,000 people were living with HIV in 2005. Injecting drug users account for almost half (44%) of people living with HIV. Almost on-half of China’s injecting drug users share needles and syringes, and one in ten also engage in high-risk sexual behavior.
-The percentage of female prostitutes who do not use condoms decreased from 67% in 1999, 49% in 2000 to 37% in 2001.
-Reported STIs rose from 430,000 cases in 1997 to 860,000 cases in 2000, suggesting that unprotected sex with non-monogamous partners is growing in China.

The Amzon

The red and the black mean danger and ready for war. What might this tribe imagine this large object flying in the sky may be?

There really are tribes out there that have never been identified….

"Brazil is believed to have the largest populations of indigenous people living in isolation from the outside world. The government-established National Indian Foundation (FUNAI) estimates there are more than 50 such groups and has established several reserves to protect their isolation."

So apparently there was a tribe found in Brazil about four months ago in the Amazon. They are unidentified and are going to stay that way. Researchers flew over the tribes territory once and claimed they saw women and children running into the forest. This unknown object may seem as a threat or concern to someone with no understanding of technology or their surrounding world. Later on, several hours later there were the men in the tribe painted in red trying to throw things at the plane.

The question is why aren't we doing anything about this. Why isn't someone helping this tribe understand that there is life around them and they aren't in danger. So they don't have to live their life in fear but without harming their life style. It's great that researchers have decided to leave the tribe alone. But what if there is harm going on to children of the tribe such as infection or disease.

Is this tribe better off not knowing about the outside world? Or are they better off living life the same as they have?

MGM launches movies on India cable television
'Quantum of Solace'
Could this be the biggest Bond movie in History Yet?
"We are very excited about rolling out in India in a big way. This is a key milestone," Bruce Tuchman, executive vice president, told reporters in Mumbai. "MGM has an opportunity to accelerate our channel's reach to audiences in a booming market."
I find it fascinating how the top cable television is in China and India along with the United State. It’s amazing how even though society assumes that the United States would be the top seller in film making, there really is a competition that is hidden. ‘Quantum of Solace’ is going to be shown in three different languages.
Shown in the U.K. on Oct. 31....
I also found this website interesting how it shows when this film will be available in each country. If you look towards the right of the page, it shows that Japan wont have this film until January of 2009. What I don't really understand is who and what makes the difference of what is available and when. How does it take a year for a movie to be broadcasted?
